FETC International Co.
FETC International, a subsidiary of the Far Eastern Group, combines deep expertise in smart transportation solutions with strong corporate backing. With its focus on overseas markets, the company shows strong potential for international expansion. To enhance its global visibility, SIPA has actively supported the company’s international outreach. In September 2020, FETC International was invited to share its insights at the Taiwan–Thailand Smart City Sub-forum, followed by an online presentation at Thailand’s DEPA Smart City Week in October. In March 2021, the company showcased its award-winning case at the World System Integrator Conference (WSIC), and in September 2021, it signed an MOU with Malaysia’s leading e-wallet provider, Green Packet, during the Malaysia–Taiwan Industrial Collaboration Summit’s Smart City Forum. These efforts not only elevated FETC International’s international profile, but also facilitated its participation in networking event for flagship system integrators, enabling the company to connect with major domestic corporations and exchange experiences with other leading system integration firms.
This year, FETC International has made significant progress in expanding its solutions across the New Southbound markets. In India, the proof of concept for the RFID Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system was successfully installed and completed in the first quarter of 2021. In Thailand and Malaysia, following the successful POC for the M9 expressway MLFF flagship, FETC International continued its collaboration with Thai partners on the M6 and M81 expressway projects. With SIPA’s assistance in building ties with Thai representative offices in Taiwan, and through the support of Mr. Thongchai Chasawath, Representative of the Thailand Trade and Economic Office, the collaboration process was further accelerated, enabling FETC International to successfully secure the contract.
FETC International's "Thailand M6/M81 New expressway ETC Installation" was signed at the end of September for a contract value of THB 1.318 billion (approximately NT$1.1 billion). In Malaysia, as the local government actively promotes the digital economy and e-commerce, FETC International has partnered with Green Packet Berhad, a major Malaysian telecommunications operator. For its ETC+ eWallet solution, FETC International has completed the first phase of service verification in Malaysia and will conduct Malaysia's first MLFF electronic toll collection POC in the fourth quarter of this year. In addition to further deepening and expanding its presence in existing markets, FETC International also aims to explore opportunities in other countries, including Vietnam, Indonesia, the Middle East, Australia, and regions in Europe and the U.S.
FETC International, a subsidiary of Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection Co., Ltd. (FETC), was established in 2017 in line with the group’s organizational and business adjustments. FETC International is responsible for overseas business development and project management, and has successfully deployed its solutions abroad, completing installations in multiple countries across Europe, Asia, and Southeast Asia.
Since 2004, FETC began to operate its expressway Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. Taiwan’s ETC has become a successful case study, attracting interest from many countries around the world. FETC established FETC International in 2017 to manage overseas business development and project management. The company offers a wide range of services, including consulting, comprehensive solutions, support for local system integrators in securing contracts, as well as subsequent implementation and maintenance, and has successfully deployed its solutions in overseas markets.
FETC International, together with its subsidiary FETC International Thailand, assisted MLFF pilot on the M9 expressway in Thailand. A POC gantry was installed along the test section, and FETC’s AI-based smart vehicle solutions and front-end equipment solutions were deployed. The success of this project is expected to influence nationwide tolling policies and systems. FETC International also secured RFID tag orders in the country, entering the local supply chain and planning to deploy RFID tags and associated systems first in the Greater Bangkok area. The M9 project has laid a solid foundation for FETC International’s entry into the Thai market. With the Thai Ministry of Transport planning to construct 6,612 kilometers of new expressways nationwide and implement free-flow ETC, the success of the M9 project is expected to guide ETC ecosystem partners in exporting complete solutions to Thailand, opening new business opportunities for Taiwanese companies in the Thai market.
